He points out that he always experienced much difficulty in expressing himself clearly and concisely, but he believes that this very difficulty may have had the compensating advantage of forcing him to think long and intently about every sentence, and thus enabling him to detect errors in reasoning and in his own observations.
He / points out / that he always experienced much difficulty in expressing himself clearly and concisely。
but之后仍为“主语+谓语+宾语从句”,即: he / believes / that this very difficulty may have had the compensating advantage…
在这一句由that引导的宾语从句:this very difficulty may have had the compensating advantage of forcing him to think long and intently about every sentence, and thus enabling him to detect errors in reasoning and in his own observations中,其句子主干结构为“主谓宾”,即:this very difficulty / may have had / the advantage,译为“正是这种困难可能已经产生了优势”; 注意这里的difficulty是名词词性,很多同学可能误看成了very difficult,译为:他认为这件事很难,这样就直接把句子结构划分错误了,所以无法得分!
compensating作为形容词对advantage进行修饰;名词后的介词结构of forcing him to think long and intently about every sentence 同样也是修饰介词之前的名词advantage;当修饰成分较长或无法翻译成“的”结构时,我们可将其“另起一句”。
and thus enabling him to …
He points out that he always experienced much difficulty in expressing himself clearly and concisely, but he believes that this very difficulty may have had the compensating advantage of forcing him to think long and intently about every sentence, and thus enabling him to detect errors in reasoning and in his own observations.
