考研复试英语抽题演讲

1. Learning is a daily experience and a lifetime mission

Learning is a daily experience and a lifetime mission. This is a proverb many of us agree with. In other words, learning is of great significance in our whole life, no matter when we are young or old. Indeed, we can improve ourselves from lifelong learning. If we realize the meaning of it and apply it to both our study and work, we will benefit a lot.

There are many reasons for lifelong learning, but the most important is that learning can make us more competent. There is no doubt that the society is developing increasingly fast and the competition we face are more and more fierce. Thus, we are often easily surpassed by others if we stop making progress. The only way to avoid lagging behind is to keep learning to improve ourselves. As an illustration, I’d like to take a special friend as an example. We knew each other from an interest class. She was in her early forties when we first met two years ago. As I know, she always takes a book in her handbag. She also joins a reading club, and insists on reading in her spare time for many years. Recently, I find that she becomes a tutor of family education from her social media. This doesn’t surprise me at all, since she always remembers to learn even when she is busy with various trivialities.

With the ability of lifelong learning, we have the courage to meet new challenges and enrich our lives.

2. It’s necessary to say “NO” sometimes.

When we were young, we were taught to give a hand to people who is in trouble, and it is always praised as a traditional Chinese moral. But have you ever thought that when you say “Yes”, you also have another choice to say “No.” And how often do you say “No” in daily life when you are not willing to help? For example, when your best friend asks you to go shopping, but you are very tired. Will you say “OK, I’ll come.” or “No. I need to have a rest.” When you are busy finishing your task just before deadline, your workmate asks you to help him or her with some trifling matters. What would you say?

Personally, I feel it’s not easy to say “No”. That’s because we want to make everyone happy, even if the demand is troublesome or burdensome. But it’s necessary to say “NO” sometimes. Because when we agree to help others against our will, we become stressed, impatient or irritable. The requirement is beyond our schedule, so we have to sacrifice our time, energy or money to help. When a help becomes a burden, we miss our original intention. Day by day, long-term stress leads to serious side effect either in our job or life.

We can help others, but it should never come at the expense of our well-being. So, we should say “No” for our own sake. If we learn when to say “No”, we may feel guilty at first, but after some time, we will have a refreshing mood for good. So, consider requests carefully and feel free to say “No” sometimes.

3. The importance of keeping optimistic

The topic of my speech is the importance of keeping optimistic. Being optimistic is essential to our growth. Life is an unfamiliar territory full of obstacles. As long as we stride ahead with optimism, we can overcome the difficulties. You see, Thomas Edison is optimistic; if not, the light of hope in his heart could not illuminate the whole world. Alfred Nobel is optimistic; if not, the explosives and the prestigious Nobel Prize would not have come into being. And Lance Armstrong is also optimistic; if not, the devil of cancer would have devoured his life and the world would not see a 5-time winner of the Tour De France.

With optimism, we tend to be more dedicated to the task we are involved with. Two men marched through a desert. When they found half bottle of water, the first man said with disappointment that there is only half a bottle water. The second man who is optimistic said that we are lucky to have half bottle of water. With the optimism the second man succeeded going out of the desert.

Hindrances and difficulties do exist, but if you are optimistic, then they are only episodes on your long way to the throne of success; they are more bridges than obstacles! The great British poet Shelley’s lines: “If winter comes, can spring be far behind?” Thank you!

4. Opportunities are only for the prepared minds.

Different people have different perspectives on opportunity. Common concept among some people is that opportunities are few. They always complain that opportunities never occur to them. They only admire those people who make a hit or succeed by seizing some opportunities, and always wonder why they are never given a good opportunity to show their talent.

Another widespread notion is that there are opportunities everywhere. Opportunity may occur to anybody at any time and under any circumstances as long as he/she keeps making constant efforts. As a student, you can get to the top through your hard work. As a businessman, you can succeed through accurate calculation and with a complete certainty that you can make a profit.

In my opinion, opportunity favors only those who keep trying and who are ready for it. As the saying goes "God helps those who help themselves", So no matter whether there is opportunity or not, what we should do is to study, to learn and become learned people. Only in this way can you seize your opportunity when it occurs. So never say there is no opportunity again.

5. In life, it is attitude that matters most.

It is well known that attitude is everything, which has a profound significance and value not in our studies but also in our lives. It means an attitude that matters most in life. The saying can be illustrated through a serious of examples as follows.

First and foremost, good attitudes can reinforce actions and outcomes in studies. With the development of modern society, it is necessary for us to be a lifelong learner. During the period, there are bad circumstance or environment or problems, which make you upset. If things are not going too well, people who have an optimistic attitude will say things like “I know there is a problem here, but I can solve it” and keep going, when they succeed, they will say things like that “I work hard and it paid off. Next, the optimistic attitude can make your live happier and meaningful. Sometimes, the universe might owe you something when you work hard to better yourselves. Instead of moaning and groaning, people who have an optimistic attitude toward life will choose to believe themselves and make the most of opportunities.

Above all, we should hold a sincere and positive attitude toward life and study, because in life, it is an attitude that matters most.
